Porto di Mare: A new Eco-district Pilot

Synopsis

The project was introduced at Triennale Milano and featured in a paper titled "Urban Transition: A New Pilot Eco-District in Porto di Mare Area (Milan)" initially published in "Urbanpromo 2017: A Reliable Future for Cities." The subsequent year, it was highlighted at the 2018 Resilience Practices Forum at Fondazione Feltrinelli, and recognized as a best practice for large-scale urban interventions.

In early 2019, the project, in collaboration with partners, was submitted for the 2030 PGT Milan Call for Ideas. Following selection, it was again presented at Triennale Milano in the presence of urban planning municipality assessors. Over the following months, during the Water Purifiers' Festival organized by Nosedo Purifier and Greem, the project was shared with local citizens and other stakeholders, garnering interest and prompting proposals for complementary interventions in the area.

This engagement proved fruitful, leading to connections with Italia Nostra, responsible for the landscape below the urbanized area, currently impacted by illegal and unsafe activities related to drugs. In June 2019, through application to the Transformative Cities initiative, the Porto di Mare Eco-District was included in the Atlas of Utopia 2019.
